Jess teaches nurses and other front line mental health practitioners how to tell traditional oral stories and apply it to their particular setting.
The training can be tailored to individual needs but typically a group is no larger than 16 participants and no fewer than 10. The course takes two consecutive days, culminating in the individual practitioners running a storytelling session in their place of work, be that a ward or a community setting. The training can also include service users if a more recovery-based approach is required, working collaboratively with service users.
Jess has worked in Istanbul with a group of storytellers. The workshop was focused on how storytelling can be applied to a health setting.
